National Clean Off Your Desk Day

Over the last few years, a lot has changed in our work. We may have all tried at least one workday from bed in our jammies but let's face reality- it didn't work out all that well! Having a productive space is essential whether you work from home or in the office.

As we celebrate National Clean Off Your Desk Day (yes, it's a thing), here are some reminders on why it might be essential to clean off your desk.

  1. Germs! According to Dr. Charles Gerba of the University of Arizona, the average office worker has over 10 million bacteria living on their desk – that's 400x more than a truck stop toilet seat. If you're germaphobic like me, that statistic already has you reaching for anti-bacterial wipes.

  2. A clean workplace is good for mental health and productivity. Our brains like order, and disorganization drains our cognitive resources. On average, a person who has a clean desk can work for 7.5 minutes longer without losing focus. You can read more on this topic from Harvard Business Review

  3. 57% of people admit they judge their coworkers by how dirty they keep their desk. We don't support the idea of judging coworkers. However, it is important to know that if you don't want to be desk shamed, it might be time to tidy things up.

A messy desk or not, we still love you at WorkWise!
